Q: How can I use a cookie mold to make Xmas ornaments?
I have clay cookie molds and would like to use them to make xmas tree ornaments. I tried using clay mache, but it just got stuck in the molds and would notcome out in one peice. Any suggestions on another medium-- or on how to make the clay mache work properly?

A: I would try one of the applesauce cinnamon, spice based doughs. The dough is like a true cookie dough and you can bake the ornaments or air dry. The scent of the spices is yummy! The recipe I use is; 1 1/2 cup cinnamon or other spices you have on hand like nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice. I like to clean out my old spices from last year to make up the 1 1/2 cup of cinnamon. 1 cup applesauce 1/4 cup white glue, such as Elmer's. You can bake your ornaments in your oven for 3 hours at 150F or as I do air dry for about three days. Remember to put the hole for hanging your ornaments before they dry. I've had some of my ornaments for years and when they lose their scent I just dab on some cinnamon oil to re-scent them.

Q: Does any one know the directions for makit and bakit xmas ornaments?
I just opened the box and we did not get the instructions. I tried looking online with no luck. Does anyone know how many crystals to use in each ornament or the temp to bake them at or for how long? Thanks for the help!!!!!

A: INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING MAKIT & BAKIT PROJECTS What you will need: Conventional oven (not for use in convection or microwave ovens) Baking sheet or pizza pan Aluminum foil Metal Makit & Bakit frames Baking crystals Small teaspoon Tweezers Potholder or oven mitt 1. Cover a baking sheet or pizza pan with aluminum foil. Make extra sure not to wrinkle the foil, and make sure that the shiny side is up. 2. Place the metal frame(s) onto the cookie sheet. 3. Sprinkle the baking crystals to fill each section with desired color, heaping full in the center and level at metal edges. Use a teaspoon for larger areas and tweezers for smaller areas. 4. Make sure that area is well ventilated. Preheat oven to 375° F. Place baking sheet in center of oven, for about 15-25 minutes, or until the project has a smooth, glass-like surface. If you desire your project to have a rippled texture, take the project out earlier, about 10-15 minutes. It is fun to watch the project melt if your oven has a window! If white crystals are left in too long, they may “yellow.” 5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven using a potholder, and allow the project to cool at least 10 minutes. You will hear the melted plastic separating from the baking sheet or foil. 6. Peel the project off the baking sheet or foil. IMPORTANT: STRONG adult supervision is recommended for children aged 10 and under. Plastic is flammable, but it is as safe in a conventional oven as a cake. Do not place near flame or broiler. Do not make these projects in a microwave or convection oven. A slight chemical odor will be given off during the heating process, which is not offensive in a well-ventilated room. Do not swallow plastic crystals. I found this online i hope it helps you!

My husband is a heavy equiptment operator and I would love to find some ornaments to put on our tree for christmas. I am not sure where to go to order them. I am open to all suggestions.

Q: I make Xmas Ornaments for the children in our family every year. Am I wasting my time?
My sister said they won't appreciate it. I buy presents as well but the younger children don't seem to appreciate the handmade gifts as much as to older kids and adults do. Each ornament take about 8 hours and I design each to suit the person. A few people want me to sell them rather than gift them. To me it's about the child and the love. Am i becoming the crazy aunt everybody avoids. _____________________________________________________ When I have sold the ornaments in the past they sold for $30 each.

A: I think it's a great thing to do for them. When they're grown up with families of their own, & they get out the X-mas ornaments, they'll look at the ones you made for them & they'll bring them back to their childhood & give them so many warm X-mas memories, & wonderful memories of caring loving aunt/ mom/etc. I think you should continue making them.

Q: anyone know where i can find a site that tells you how to make xmas ornaments out of beads and pipe cleaner?

Q: Brother xmas ornaments?
Anyone know where I can find xmas ornaments that say brother, dated or non? Apparently, no one, including Hallmark believes in "brother" ornaments anymore. They have mom, dad, sister, daugther, son, but no brother or uncle!

A: Check ebay or do a search. I couldn't find any decent ones at any card stores for my sister's daughter- it's her first Christmas - so I used an old tree bulb with no pattern or anything on it and I made one for her. It's red with her name and the year on it painted in white and COVERED with glitter. It's not hard to do at all. Just need a bit of patience.

Q: How do you get the musty smell out of old ornaments?
This summer, I bought a box of xmas ornaments and they have a musty smell like they have been sitting in a garage or attic. I love these ornaments and got a huge box full for only 2 dollars. Is there a way to get this smell out? Some of them can be wiped down and cleaned, but some of them have cloth...any ideas??

A: Try hanging them out on an outside line for a couple of hours they just may need some fresh air if that doesn't work a light mist of febreze and let dry completely then wrap in clean tissue paper and store in a plastic tote as cardboard will absorb moisture and make item s smell musty, my mom used to wrap hers in newspaper but they smelled musty too because of the newspaper tends to absorb moisture also which is why alot of people use them to clean windows and if they are stored in a really humid place the moisture can cause the newsprint to transfer to the ornaments : ( , so it is best to use tissue paper to wrap and layer them in.

Q: I want to make a handprint ornament for xmas- can you help with ideas?
I want to make a handprint ornament for xmas for my son to give his g-parents. Can you send me a recipe on how to do this? If you have done it- how does the final product turn out? Was it easy?

A: Reindeer Ornament- Trace his hand onto a piece of brown paper and cut it out. Add black pieces of paper or marker to all finger tips except the thumb for hooves. Then add a red glitter glue collar with gold sequins for bells, then glue on a googly eye, a red pom-pom nose, and a tail cut from the brown paper. For antlers, cut a brown pipe cleaner in half. Bend each half in two (slightly off-center) and curl the ends. Glue together the pipe cleaner pieces, holding them in place with a paper clip or clothespin until the glue dries and glue the antlers in place on the reindeer. Then poke a small hole and put in some string to hang. You could also paint his hand and press it onto a piece of heavy paper and then decorate and hang.

Q: Decorating xmas tree.. all purple and silver ornaments and lights. Got any unusual, different ideas?
My tree is green, everything else purple and silver.

A: Go to the fake flower department in WalMart. Buy a whole lot of those small bunches of purple grapes. Get a can of spray adhesive, and a jar of silver glitter. Do this outdoors, as the fumes from the spray adhesive can be pretty bad. Lightly spray the grape bunches with adhesive, and then sprinkle them with silver glitter. When completely dry, tie a thin, metallic ribbon near the "stem", and hang them on your tree. Make snowflakes out of glittery white pipe cleaners. Gather about 6-7 together, and cut them in half with a sharp scissors. Using another short piece of pipe cleaner, bind them all together in the center. Spread out all the pipe cleaners to resemble snowflakes. No hooks or ribbons needed - just rest them among the tree's branches. Your color scheme sounds pretty. Happy decorating and Happy Holidays!
