Q: What are so inexpensive gifts that men will actually enjoy?
I'm pregnant and my daughter is due Nov 29th. I want to get all my Christmas shopping done ahead of time so I don't have to shop with a newborn or shop the day after Thanksgiving and end up in labor at a store. :p Shopping for women is easy, but what do men like? I need cheap gifts for a 14 year old, an 18 year old, a 40 year old, a 45 year old, a 60 year year old, and a 67 year old. Lots of people, and I don't have too much money to spend. What do men like at various ages? I don't want to get something junky, but something small that they would actually enjoy.

A: Don't overlook subscriptions to magazines of interest to them. It's difficult not knowing what their interests are, but if the boys are into model cars or planes they're reasonable and fun. If any of the men like to fiddle around in the shop or garage building or fixing things a box of basic paper towels, wd-40,hand washing cream, shop towels is always a great gift. If the 18 y/o has a car, car wash, wax and such is a good gift.

Q: Is it normal for women to buy men Valentine gifts?
I'm not from the U.S. and V-day isn't really big in Europe, but is it normal for the ladies to buy the men V-day gifts in the U.S.? If so, what would be a good gift?

A: Of course you can get a Valentine's Day gift for a boy! It's a very sweet thing to do and I am sure that he will appreciate it. What you get him is completely dependent upon his personality and the types of things that he is interested in though, so I don't think I have any suggestions for gift ideas. It's very sweet of you to think of him though! Good luck.

Q: Why do a lot women feel they shouldn't get men any gifts for Valentine's? Selfishness?
I see all these commercials about what men can get for women for Valentine's. I have yet to see one commercial targeted for women getting a gift for their boyfriend or husband. And women in general feel that they shouldn't get a gift for her man. People wonder why women are the more selfish gender; this is one of many reasons. Your thoughts. Crazy Horse: So, I'm assuming your man is not working a job to pay the rent or mortgage or house property tax? He doesn't work on the car or paint the house or mow the lawn? He does nothing for you and the relationship? You do everything, and on Valentine's Day is the day he can finally do something? Wow, I learn something new every day. Burqha: Actually, my girl did get me a gift. She knows how I feel about this, agrees, and wouldn't make the mistake of not getting me a gift. And of course I get her gifts as well. You actually sound bitter. This question hit you too close to home? Burqha: Actually, my girl did get me a gift. This question hit you too close to home? gateman: The problem I have with that, is that he sleeps with her anyways. He's her girlfriend -- he's getting sex constantly. How is "sex" a Valentine's gift? Don't these women have better imaginations than that? That's like a guy saying that he'll let her stay at his home even though she had moved in with him.

A: I dunno, I think it's really rude. I overheard some girl a year or two younger than me talking about how her boyfriend was taking her to the city -I live in NY- to see some play that he had to get tickets weeks in advance for and she didn't even consider getting him anything. That's messed up in my opinion. I feel guilty if someone gets me something if I didn't get them anything. I mean, the least you can do is get him a card or maybe a pair of boxers, but nothing? Come on, you can't expect him to go get together some elaborate romantic extravaganza only to offer nothing in return. I think the commercials may have something to do with it. Women are shown that men are supposed to get them stuff and jump through hoops to create the perfect experience for them while the man's gift is his girlfriend or wife's company.

Q: What kinds of generic gifts do men like?
I need some good gift ideas for men - stuff that any man would like. Just as you can almost always buy bath stuff for women or gift cert to clothes store, what kinds of generic gifts do men like? I'm talking men in the 40+ year old age range. I already have stuff like gift cert to home depot, microbrewery samples etc. Ok guys out there - what kind of generic gift would YOU like to receive? Please try to keep ideas in the $20-$50 range.

A: Cologne, nail care kit, pajama pants, gift card to Total Wine and More(or some other upscale alcohol beverage store). I think I would try to stay away from the gift card thing though because it seems like you put less thought into it. Most men love getting manicures even though they don't like to admit it. And pajamas are always a safe way to go and you can get a good brand for under 50 dollars. You can get a great nail care kit for under 50 dollars and every man is diligent about taking care of there nails. Good luck!

Q: Why is it that men give such better gifts?
Why is it that men give such better gifts? Men give necklaces, jewlery, paid vacation, luxury sports cars, take out to fancy dinners, pampering at spas, laptops and mp3 players, expensive chocolate, expensive food.In return women give men things such as socks and maybe a tie (if she's feeling lavish). Why are we women are so cheap ?

A: Men have higher salaries, and they know they won't be dropping out of the workforce for 15 years to raise children. Their income is more disposable than ours is.

Q: What are some good grooms men gifts that someone has recently got or would suggest?
I've already bougth one gift and I'm looking to spend no more than another $25-30 per person (and there's 10 guys). The wedding is in a little over a month, so I need your HELP! Thanks!

A: My best friend got married, and I was his best man. He got all his groomsmen money clips with their name engraved on it. Not sure pricing, but they're quite nice.

Q: Did the 3 wise men bearing gifts go to find Jesus and assassinate him?
The Jews were very opposed to another generation of Roman domination.

A: Balthasar, Caspar and Melchior were originally known as Magi or wise men, only later becoming known as kings. Their journey to visit the infant Jesus was seen as fulfilling an earlier prophecy - "The kings of Tharsis and Arabia and Saba shall bring gifts". These three were the first non-Jews to see Jesus and in the Medieval period they were thought of as the first pilgrims. The Catholic Church venerated them so much that they were accepted as saints, their feast day being on January 6 (the date traditionally thought to be when they arrived in Bethlehem). No assassination, no conspiracy, no Roman or Jewish assassin involvement.

Q: What gifts do men like to receive for their 30th birthday?
My fiance is turning 30 and I have no idea what to buy him. I am looking for a memorable/unusual gift.

A: Take him to the Grand Canyon and rent the donkeys from the rim and ride down in. Rent a small plane and fly someplace close but romantic. Bungee jumping! Ask your local church if you can have lunch in the belfry! AND RING THE BELLS! It's fun. Have a midnight picnic in candlelight on the fifty yard line at a university stadium. Go to the beach at dusk and watch the sailboats come in with a nice bottle of your favorite champagne. Shall I go on? How about a nice candlelight dinner? A book? Hum...stargazing, moon-walking, shadow chasing, Frisbee jumping. Just have fun girl, and I guarantee he'll remember. I did. It was the Grand Canyon, trout Almondine, but the best part was my wife looking into my eyes--that said everything. Best to you!

Q: What are some good holiday gifts for men in there mid 20s?
he works alot and is very busy, it would be hard to take him to a sporting event, but those are very good ideas.

A: a jacket of their favorite football team

Q: Any ideas for Xmas or Bday gifts for young men ages 12-16 from their Aunt?
I'm looking for inexpensive gifts to give my nephews. I ususally buy from "Ten Thousand Villiages" or other international fair trading sources which do not exploit poor people in 3rd world countries. I like to give my nephews & nieces unique gifts. They are from wealthy families and don't need things -- I am on a really tight budget and cannot afford to get them the type of gifts their other relatives give. I genuinely love them want to try to bless them with something meaningful or special as a token of love from me & my daughter. The girls are easy, we buy bath or beauty items on sale then add handmade earings or a craft. But the guys? Any ideas, especially from teen boys, of gifts that touched them?

A: Hi, how about giving them a religious pendant. Or maybe finding a leather crafter and having a belt designed just for them? Do you see them often? How about just some homemade baked goods and hide a few dollars in it.

Q: What is the top 3 gifts men like to have?
This is geared for men. Please state your age too. Thanks ^^

A: After-shave or cologne (girls are so much better at picking ones they like the smell of than we are). New and possibly interesting underwear -- like something with different colors. We'll never buy it for ourselves. Only don't change the "type," if we like briefs, get briefs not boxers! Something high-tech and cool -- like an iPod, a big-screen plasma TV, etc. Price isn't really the issue, but coolness and newness is. And if all that fails -- we always love to get sex ;-) I'm 46.

Q: Electronic gifts for men: What would you suggest?
I want to buy an electronic gizmo for my brother-in-law. Something small (carry in flight), exciting and that gizmo freak men would usually like. Price range: not exceeding $200 Thanks!

A: Portable DVD player or Ipod. Or maybe a portable game system of some sort. I know you can't take it on the plane (well you could but it wouldn't do you any good) but if he's into gaming a graphics card would be good. My dad got my brother one and he loves it.

Q: What gifts do men like to receive at the office?
My boyfriend's 40th birthday is coming up. I'd like to send something special to his office for the special occassion. I think flowers are out. Any ideas? (I've sent cookies before)

A: Personally i like to have little novelty trinkets sitting around on my desk. However, a mini-fridge stocked with his favorite drink wouldn't be bad either. :-P

Q: Can anyone tell me the story of the gifts the wise men gave Jesus the night he was born?
I know they gave him frankincense, myrrh, and gold. What was the purpose of these gifts? A friend of mine have a braclet with this on it and I want to know the story?

A: It's like in the carol "We Three Kings" Gold symbolises royalty that he was the lion of Judah and of royal blood line of King David (through Mary) Frankincense was incense used in several cultures to put in shrines, temples etc when worshipping God. It symbolises his divinity. It was the incensed burned in the lamps in the temples when praying to God. Myrrh was the embalming herb used to preserve bodies when wrapping a dead body in a burial cloth. It symbolises his sacrifical death. All of these were some of the most expensive items of the day and each tells us something about Jesus. These were holy men and mystics and they were from the east, the were not Jews and they were very early believers, they knew what the signs they saw foretold.
