Q: Party decoration?
My friend has an empty apartment and she wants to throw a party for her bday. It will be a dancing party so we only want decoration on the walls, what do you suggest?

A: I suggest using vertical metallic streamers on the walls. Space them about one foot apart from ceiling to floor. As people walk by they will wave a bit creating a visual interest. Place a balloon at the top of each one. Boas are also a great idea too. People love to wear boas and beads and funky halloween hats or wigs to dance in. Maybe even a grass skirt or two. (Collect this stuff from friends.) Put a big plastic tub full of old Halloween costume stuff nearby so that people will wear this stuff and just be goofy at the party. All in good fun. Perhaps even a beach ball to play living room volleyball while everyone sits on the floor. For the walls....have someone bring a Poloroid camera... take pictures at the party of everyone having fun. Bring PLENTY of film. Have a plastic strip that will allow pictures to be poised on the wall. At the end of the party....have a picture album open and ready to put the pictures into. The first memories in the new place..... and everyone will love posing for the pics. Then ... get some white christmas lights. Strands and strands of them and use them around windows and door facings and vertically on the walls between the streamers. You could also use large glass vases to put these in and use the 'blinking' effect. A cupcake eating contest would be great too. Except... no hands can be used. Only the face and no one can help the person. Have at least three people sign up for the cupcake 'contest' to see who can eat their cupcakes the quickest. Put three cupcakes on each plate with lots n lots of icing on the top of them. Tell them they have one minute to eat as many cupcakes as possible.....start a timer ... (use a watch or a cell phone that has a reliable timer)......then let them go at it. Have more cupcakes available if needed. Appoint three judges to say who wins. Two out of three votes from the judges takes the prize. Without any furniture....where will people sit? Think of creative ways to allow people to sit down. Perhaps on the invitation tell people to bring their own chair... maybe a chair decorating contest where people will win a cool gift if theirs is voted #1? This way ...your friend could have a really cool decorated 'Birthday chair'? (I suggest having a few extra chairs for those who 'forget' or choose not to participate.) Have a fireplace as well......take a large glass dish and put ten or so candles in it. (Even old candles will work) and light them all to add some romance to the party. Make sure to bring a CD player so there will be some music. Appoint your hippest person as the one who controls what music gets played. Tell them to mix it up so people will dance to slow, fast music.... or just play good music to be able to sit and have conversations while it plays in the background.

A: what i love in parties are simple rooms and having a whole bunch of ballooons reaching to the ceiling and the strings coming down to the height of your head (: it turns out really pretty but don't use too many colors cause it gets too tacky stick simple like silver and gold

Q: Does anyone have any homemade decoration ideas for a mexican birthday party for a 9 year old that we can make?
I want to make my own mexican birthday party decorations for my daughter's 9th birthday party. Maybe flowers, pinatas, etc.

A: Here is a site for the tissue flowers associated with Fiesta decorations they can also be made with holiday wrapping paper for sparkle: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/flowers/tissueflower/ The Pinata is easy to make with paper mache and a balloon then make the last 2 layers with crepe paper for color you can also use water balloons to make smaller versions of these entirely of crepe paper and place them over patio lights as festive lanterns(safe as long as the bulb is not touching the sides use a bit of wire to create a secure u shaped brace. Use lots of crepe paper streamers and cover the table with bold colored table runners. If you are especially crafty use the Crepe squares to make a fiesta garland, cut silhouettes out of the crepe squares and string across a clothes line or string - you could even cut out Feliz Cumpleaños (Happy Birthday) and don't forget to have small streamers strewn on the table and lots of balloons. Have Fun!

Q: How do you make a football goal to use as a birthday party decoration?
I am making a football field on the dining room table out of construction paper and white paint and I would love to have some goals. My 6 year old is helping with the decor of my 2 year olds party so it needs to be simple.

A: You might try cheap wooden chopsticks, depending on the height. You can find them at bigger grocery stores like HEB that have an asian section (I don't recommend actually stealing them from the sushi counter ... :-))Simple white glue in a H-Shape will work well. Poster paint after it's dry to make it white. Stick it up right in modeling clay. It won't be like the nice modern "U" on the arched column, but it would be simple.

Q: 21st Party decoration ideas?
I'm having a 21st party in a few weeks and i'm looking for decoration ideas. The room is wood pannelled with some red and turquoise. Any ideas for colour schemes, balloon colours, table decorations etc? Thanks!

A: You could take the wood, turquoise and red further and include it in your decorations if you wanted to. Like a white table cloth with a turquoise table runner (or red... whichever). Turquoise and red balloons or something like that. It shouldn't be too hard to manage (or expensive)

Q: Any idea for a princess birthday party decoration?
also I need idea for the looth bag to give it to the little girls invited. their age is between 4and 7. thanks for any idea. I want this birthday party to be a succes.

A: Lots of pink! Depending how much money you want to spend, or how crafty you are, you could buy a bunch of pink fabric and drape it around to make everything look real fancy pink. The dollar store would be a great place to start, i dont know what you have locally, but Dollar tree has alot of Christmas decorations now, so you could get those colored Christmas beads and string them around for decorations, They prolly dont have pink, but silver would work well. maybe with some pink streamers, also you can have some extra for the girls to play with. You can prolly also fine some sparkle wire stiff you could make crowns out of, or even tinsel to toss around and have fun with, maybe some flowers too? let your imagination go wild. They also have tons of toys and play jewelery, maybe you can even find some princess play sets. with little crowns, or else you can make your own with construction paper, or make the the cone type hats with ribbon coming out of the tops, feather boas are also at the dollar store sometimes, little girls love those, well most older girls do too for that matter! Have fun with it, you can also go to yahoo and search for princess party pictures, or just princess for more ideas, have fun!

Q: What do you think of calla lillies for a major social party decoration? Is the sexual symbolism too much?
What do you think of when you think of calla lillies? I don't want to have the wrong message.

A: Wow.... I didn't even know that calla lillies had sexual symbolism ! I guess I'm naive.... I've seen them used at all kinds of functions, so I think you should be fine. They're beautiful !

Q: how do i start my own party decoration and favors business?

A: You can get supplies at www.orientaltrading.com. Also try www.ustoy.com Ask your local libraries if you can put a flier up and have those little tear off tabs with phone number or website at the bottom. Call entertainers in your area and let them know of your service. Tell them about your website and offer to put a link on it if they will also give you a link on their website. Or offer to supply them with favors at a reduced price and they can sell them for you.

Q: Children party decoration and some game ideas please?
my little girl will be 4 and we're having a traditional party at home in the garden....I'm looking for cheap ways to make the garden look really festive? Also, the kids will range from age 4 to age 7 and so I want them all to enjoy themselves..what are some activities/games that all the ages will enjoy?

A: My daughter was four in December. We hired the village hall (would have done the garden had she been a summer baby) and did a 'traditional' party with a theme. (Really fed up of all these Wacky Warehouse type parties - I think she has been to the same place 9 times since September) We did 'Pirates and Princesses'. The age range was 18 months (her younger cousin) to 7 (her older cousin) and various ages in between. We decorated the hall with skull and cross bone bunting and flags and used a black tablecloth. Food was usual party food (sandwiches, crisps etc) but I bough little skull and cross bone 'food picks' and stuck them in. The kids each had a cardboard pirate ship plate (they do loads of different kinds online) and I also got 2 dozen skull and cross bone balloons. Games were all the traditional ones, re-jigged: *Pin the Patch on the Pirate (bough this online for a couple of quid) *Musical Islands (cross between bumps and chairs using a piece of cardboard cut like and island) *Steal the treasure from Captain Uncle (my brother sat on a chair in a bandanna, blindfolded. Chocolate coins under chair and they had to sneak up and steal them. He had once of these soft sponge swords to wack them) *Treasure hunt (quality street hidden to represent jewels theey had to seek out) *Pass the treasure (got a pirate teddy off ebay, painted a shoe box to look like a treasure chest and put teddy inside then multiple wrapped it and it was a twist on pass the parcel) All the kids came in fancy dress - party lasted two hours. I'd say all in it cost me £100 - and that included the hire of the hall and food/party bags for 16 children. Themes work well as there are loads of websites selling themed tableware and decorations. Pirates Cowboys Princesses Spacemen Jungle Super hero Safari Knights/damsels Fairies I've also heard about 'colour' parties where guests all come in one colour and the food is themed also. Edit: Just read the answer above and that reminded me I also bought each child a foam crown (treasure) and a load of sticky jewels and they made a crown to take home - that was REALLY good. Try Yellow moon online for craft stuff :)

A: Here is a site that has all kinds of themes and decorations for Birthday partys http://www.giantpartystore.com/Party-Supplies/Decorations/Catalog.cfm/iCatID/19287/blnFromPackView/0 Use lots of balloons and tissue decorations. Go to a grocery bakery and get a nice cake or make one yourself and decorate it with "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and a colorful frosting border. If this a romantic interest and you are her boyfriend, take her to a nice Italian Restaurant with candlelight and imported wines. If she is a business associate, friend or relative and there will be several in the party, take her to "The Magic Time Machine" or "Medival Times" or "Dave and Buster's".
