Q: Do you have any homemade recipes for cake decorations?
I have to make a cake for my theatre banquet at school. It's a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. My issue: it looks boring. Any ideas for cheap, easy, and homemade cake decorations?

A: How about grating or shaving some white chocolate? How about dusting lightly with powdered sugar and then on top of that dusting lightly with cocoa powder? The combination of the two gives a nice effect? How about slicing up some strawberries and placing them decoratively on the top? How about placing whole raspberries decoratively on the top? Just a few ideas - hope one of them helps :)

Q: Anyone know where I can find good cake decorations?
I am looking for a cabin, trees, and rocks to make a mountain grooms cake because my fiance asked me to marry him on top of a mountain after we hiked it. Any ideas where I can find these cake decorations?

A: If you're not looking for something edible (pastillage molding, fondant sculpture) check out a hobby store. Many of them carry miniature decorations like you described for model train sets and the like. Congrats on getting married!

Q: Where Can I Buy Wholesale Plastic Cake Decorations Online?
Does anyone know sites that I can buy plastic cake decorations at wholesale prices? These are the kinds of decorations that came on the cakes that were ordered at the super market for whatever special occasion that was being celebrated. Like the Hula themed cake, or the fireman themed cake decorations. Cup cake picks are what I am really looking for, but any cake decorations would be great. I am definately not looking for anything to do with weddings. Thanks!!

A: here are a few websites that have some really cute cake/cupcake decorations...the links that are below are all for cupcake picks, but if you go to the main site, they have a lot of different cake decorations other than the picks! the second looks like they have the cheapest picks! http://www.partypro.com/items.asp?cc=CAKEPICK http://www.birthdaydirect.com/cake-supplies-cake-decorations-c-207_264.html http://www.ultimatepartysupply.com/Cupcake-Decorations-s/85.htm hope this helps! =)

Q: I want to know of any website that sells edible cake decorations please!!!?
my baby is about to be 1 and i want to order a plain white cake which is not a problem however... the edible decorations have been a pain to find please help

A: This website is amazing: http://www.sweetc.com/ You can preview their catalog online and order, or you can ask for a hard copy catalog. Click on Catalog, then Preview Catalog on the next page. This will take you to the pages sections with thumbnails and descriptions. You can skip to the last pages of the catalog for the edible decors. Pages 136 through 139 offer an incredible array of edible cake, cookie and cupcake decors. Another good website: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/landing.jsp?go=Home Click on Cookies & Cake side drop menu, Decorations & Sugar for access to their edible decors. You can order online and they also have a hard copy catalog that you can order. I have used both catalogs.

Q: How to make a piping cream for cake decorations etc.?
I wanted to make a stiff cream for cake decoration etc. which can hold its shape. I have tried it many times but when i whip i am not able to get it stiff. Also if anybody could help me which whip cream brand is good in India.

A: Here is the recipe I use. It's very easy. Decorating Icing: 1 1/2 cups butter ( not margarine) 1/2 cup shortening ( I use Crisco) 4 cups icing sugar 1 egg white 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 teaspoons milk Cream butter and shortening together. Gradually add icing sugar, then egg white, then vanilla, then milk. If it gets too soft while decorating, place it in the fridge for about 10 minutes to firm it up again. I also use the gel to tint the icing, I have never tried the liquid food coloring. Good luck!!

Q: Is there a way to preserve cake fondant decorations??
I have saved some of the decorations from my daughters birthday cake.I heard there is a spray you can use to preserve fondant decorations from a cake anyone know what it is?

A: Never heard of a spray? What my family have done (with wedding cake decorations) is to put them in a clear, air tight container. It stops them from breaking by accidental knocking and also stops them from getting mouldy if the weather tends to get humid. My parents have done that and still have their wedding cake decorations from almost 30 years ago.

Q: Where do i get cake decorations from?
I am planning to make a Nemo cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday. I am not very creative but really want this to be a sucess! Any suggestions on what to decorate with and where to buy the things please?

A: You can get ready made icing (regal ice) which you roll out from supermarkets. Get some food colouring too and in a large bowl mix the food colouring into the icing with your hands. It works best if you put the icing in a warm place for half an hour before you start so it softens up a bit. Add the food colouring a bit at a time and work it in with your hands like kneading bread. If it gets too sticky add a little icing sugar. I don't know what colours Nemo is but I would suggest baking a rectangular cake and covering it with a layer of blue icing and then drawing a simple picture of Nemo on some baking paper, and using this as a template to cut out shapes of Nemo coloured icing to stick onto the cake. A little jam will stick the icing Nemo shapes onto the blue icing. To roll the icing out get a large board or worksurface and sprinkle with icing sugar from a sieve for an even covering. Sprinkle the rolling pin with icing sugar too to help stop sticking. Roll lightly and keep lifting it from the surface and adding more icing sugar if it starts to get too sticky and sticks to the surface. Jam will also help stick the icing to the cake. Writing icing pens are useful for adding details like eyes, mouths and messages. You can get all this from a supermarket, but a specialist cooking shop might have pre-mixed roll out icing colours which will save you some bother. Good luck

Q: Where can i buy wedding cake decorations?
Does anyone know which website can I buy the wedding stairways and bridge to decorate the cake with? i tried ebay but didn't find much and i also tried amazon and it didn't help much.

A: People still do the staircases and bridges between tiers with the little people on them? Oh geez. I thought we were out of style back in the 80's. If you like that kind of thing, go for it. But it's definitely dated and frowned upon. My suggestions would be to have your florist decorate it with fresh flowers. Or find yourself a nice monogram cake topper. Keep it simple and elegant!
