Q: Christmas lights colour catastrophe?
I bought two sets of lights for my tree, one are normal mini lights (white) and another LED mini Light set (white) The problem is that the LEDs are a light shade of blue, and the other set is a normal white yellow-ish. I was wondering if the two will go together good, (and fit my snowflake, all white theme)? should I exchange the LEDs for a matching colour set to the normal mini lights, to keep the colour the same? please help...

A: Try them and see if you like the way they look. If not, then return the ones you don't like.

Q: What gauge extension cord should I use?
what gauge extension cord should I use for my christmas lights? I have commercial grade mini christmas lights from GE that say you can connect up to six runs. Each run is 200 lights and 58 feet and I will be using 6 runs together. I have to run 200 feet from the house before getting to the mini lights. The box of xmas lights say they are 67.2w 120v 60hz. I have always heard that 300 mini lights = 1amp. What gauge extension cord should I use since I need 200 feet of it? Thanks

A: over that distance and with that many lights i would use a minimum 10 amp extension with a power breaker in line. Make sure that you unroll the extension fully so as not to create an over heating problem

Q: What is the total wattage of a 100 bulb Christmas light set - each bulb is 2.5 volts - these are mini bulbs?
My house is the typical 110v system with 15 amp recepticals.

A: To find wattage, you'd also need to know the current through each bulb (P=IV) or the resistance (P=V^2/R). One article states the resistance of a mini bulb is about 7 or 8 ohms. Also, a 100-light set usually consists of two 50-light strings in parallel, so the voltage across each bulb is really about 2.2 V. This gives you a power of about 60-70 W (current of 0.54-0.64 A).

Q: christmas outdoor lighting help?
I bought 5 strands of white mini christmas lights last year only to find out that they didn't have the clips that the big lights have to hang on my house. I would like to try and hang them up this year but i don't know how to secure them onto my home. should i staple them or nail them in?,,,,what? lol help please, i don't want to go get the big lights

A: I have used staples for years. Just be careful and not have staple cut wires.

Q: Where can I buy string mini-lights?
White Christmas lights! I need to find a place to buy about 300ft for cheap. Not online because I dont want to wait and pay for shipping. I found one at wal mart for $15 for about 20ft--too expensive!

A: Have you checked out craigslist you may want to put a "wanted" note .. people cruise through that to get rid of stuff so you may even get them for free or really close to it :)

Q: I want to make a little 'fairy 'house, 6x8 'ish?
I will cover it in moss and plant material, like seed pods, the twining part of vines and use little bits of colored glass for windows. I will install little white lights to come on in the night (christmas mini lights) and make a little village(4-5 of them) on the edge of my back yard, sort of hidden behind my plants.Could I spray something on these to protect from squirrels or weather? Any other intersting ideas to make them more realistic?

A: It sounds adorable I'd love to live in it.. if a fairy

Q: Do I need to waterproof christmas light connections?
Like the 100 pack of mini full voltage outdoor lights, if I were to connect the end of a string to the beginning of a new string would I have to waterproof that connection? Also the connect where the light string plugs into an extension cord? Thanks in advance

A: If moisture from snow and rain will get into the plug connections, you will trip the GFCI receptacle. For those laying on the ground, I slip each connection into a short length (8" or so) of PVC pipe to keep them dry. The hanging ones usually don't cause me any trouble.

Q: Mini Christmas Cakes?
I was trying to think of a simple gift to give to my work colleagues and my childrens friends, and i thought of an idea that was quick and easy. Could i spoon light fruit christmas cake mixture into fairy cake case, then cook them as until done as per usual. Then glaze only the top the cake with apricot glaze, put a small layer of marzipan and white icing on top and decorate with a small holly deco. I was wondering if this could work? Or if there are any other guidelines i have to follow to get this mixture right? Thanks, any tips or hints are gratefully recieved.

A: You might find fairy cake tins too small, muffin tins, esp the non stick so you could avoid using paper cases, I think would work better but cook on a low temp to avoid burning but ensuring the mixture is properly cooked. Try one or two first to get things right before cooking to many at once. Be sparing with the icings too, as too much will detract from the cake. I think it's a lovely idea, thoughtful.

Q: Does anyone have any good tips for outdoor christmas lights *10 points most enthusiastic answer*?
I really want to do a good show this year and i have 6 mini trees on a light controller and next year ill do the whole house but i Have a spot light and i have nothing to do with hit? any ideas please answer both questions: 1. What are some ideas for outdoor lights? 2. What can i do with a spotlight? i have a ranch and a mini spotlight plus i have way more than just those six trees oh yeah and if anyone has any idea how to keep away animals from chewing the lights please tell me!!!!!

A: For your first questions-DON'T GET TACKY it's a good idea to stick to a single color of lights (usually white) and continue the rest of your decor along with that same color...but if you're like me, and you have to have multicolored lights, make sure you have other decor to match that decor. if you have a pathway leading up to your front-door, line the trees up along the path in some sort of patter you can also get like 2 of those animated grazing deer things, scatter the trees on your front lawn, and put the deer around them. You might want to take measurements of the places where you plan on putting lights-that way, you know how many you need and you can estimate how many boxes of lights you need to buy. NEVER USE NAILS TO HANG LIGHTS-it leaves holes and creates a hazard it something goes wrong with the lights.. there are these clips that you can hang from rain gutters, as well as the same clips with an adhesive backing...3M makes some really good ones, but they're a bit pricey..I know that there is this other brand that has a similar product and has a large tub of them for a decent price. if you need extention cords, make sure the cords are suitable for outdoor use, and figure out how you are going to run them before buying them/setting them up. Avoid fake snow-it looks like you have a cheap sheet of cotton on your lawn (which is basically what you have), its hard to clean up if it gets wet, and if you have a lot of squirrles in your area, they will chew it up.. a reef is basically a staple in christmas decor-get a reef, but put lights in it (keep it simple and use white lights) you can buy 2 pointsetta plants and put them outside of your door For the spotlight-if you plan on doing a nativity scene (idk what your religion is), you can illuminate it with the spotlight..you can also use the spotlight to add general lighting to your decor...aim it downward towards your decor..

Q: Why does the breaker for my basement lights/outlets keep tripping?
I have a PC, Monitor,Modem, TV, Cable box and a mini-fridge plugged in. I go to plug in the Christmas tree lights and the breakers trips. I unplug the Christmas tree lights and reset the breaker. I go into the laundry/storage room (also in the basement.) Turn on the light switch and the breaker trips again. Reset the breakers and experienced no troubles the rest of the night. Do I have too much power going on and not enough power to support it?

A: it sounds like your trying to run to much on one circuit, if you could plug the frig. into another outlet which is not on the same circuit your problem would probably go away, or if you don't have one i say get another breaker and run another circuit to your basement for the frig. from what you say that's what would be pulling the most amperage on that circuit, you see it trips because the wiring heats up and causes the breaker to trip prior to starting a fire, if the breaker malfunctions a fire could result....jack

Q: Does anyone know if Ace Hardware carries lights, even when its not the holiday season?
I really would like some green mini light sets for my St. Patrick's Day party. I have searched a lot of websites, including Walmart, and they have no lights listed. I even went to Walmart and they found out that they don't carry them this time of year. Its a good thing they don't list mini lights when they don't sell them right now because I know they do at Christmas. Anyways, I did find some at Ace Hardware's website. It lists several colors and such that they carry. But my concern is that they don't carry them at this time of year but it is still listed since they do carry the product toward the end of the year. I think this might be since it came up with a few holiday and Christmas light products, including light up "Merry Christmas" signs. I was just wondering if anyone knew...because it is quite a drive to the store from where I live. Thanks! Oh, and if you happen to know a common store that sells them this time of year (like Rite Aid or Home Depot), please let me know!

A: I was looking at the Ace Hardware Web site and it looks like you can purchase lights and have them shipped free to your local store.

Q: Light Bulb decoration?
I really want to decorate my room with lights but I can't seem to find them anywhere. There mini light bulbs attached on a transparent or white cord, kind of like christmas lights, but not really. The only ones I can find are christmas lights, and the cord is green, not white. I want it to put them all around my door. Can anyone help me find them! Thanks!!
