Q: How long is a reasonable time to have Christmas lights on while being environmentally friendly?
I’m ‘making’ a green city and I want to include having Christmas lights on for a certain about of time to save electricity. How long do you think is reasonable? From dark to 3 hours after dark? From 1 hour before dark to 4 hours after dark?
A: Turn them on at sundown and off about 11pm.
We use timers to do this.
Turn them off completely after the New Year and then take down all decorations.
Have a Merry Christmas !!
Q: How do you find bad bulbs in christmas lights?
I put up my Christmas lights and on a strand of lights one section is out and the rest work. I am wondering if there is an easy way to find the bad bulb without replacing the whole strand of lights?
A: I don't think you have a bulb problem. All string lights today are wired in parallel, and therefore the entire sting will not go out if one bulb burns out. Years ago many string lights were wire in series, which meant that if one bulb went out they all went out. In all probability your problem is in your plug, or in the wiring that the individual light sockets are tied into.
Q: What are some good ways to hang up christmas lights inside?
I want to hang up some christmas lights in my bedroom but i don't know what to use to put them on the wall. I don't want holes or anything in the walls and tape doesn't really stick that well, Do you have some other ideas?
A: get the putty-type stuff that you can tear off pieces to hang a poster...that should hold if you put a bit every 10 lights or so.
good luck!
Q: What is the name of the short story about a husband who hangs Christmas lights for his dying wife?
The sick wife wants her husband to hang Christmas lights because she loves the glow. The husband goes out to buy lights, but when he returns, his wife has already died. He proceeds to hang them anyway, and is in partial denial about her death. The story may take place in Russia, and it is a story within a story, as the husband is telling the story of the Christmas lights to someone else.
A: is it to do with Russia's Baboushka,
Q: whats the best place to buy christmas lights?
Im looking to get outdoor and indoor christmas lights cheap, but im wondering where. Anything will go, from the local K-mart, to wholesalers. Links would help.
A: I swear by eBay. And, it saves you the trouble of having to go searching through stores for the right stuff.
Also, discount stores like K-Mart, Target, and WalMart would have all kinds of stuff. Sometimes places like Dixieline or Home Depot have stuff on sale for the holidays.
Q: Christmas lights won't work with light socket AC adapter?
I wanted to put Christmas lights around my doorway, but there is no nearby AC socket. I have one of those adapters that you screw into a light socket and then you can plug an AC power plug into it. Well, I thought that would work for my christmas lights, but it's apparently too much voltage. The socket says it puts out 250v, which is too much for the christmas lights. I blew 3 fuses.
How can I make this work? Is there a voltage regulator (??) or something that will do the trick?
A: Well= you probably fried the lights if it was plugged into 220 or greater- that is odd - a light socket at a house w 250 - do you have an outside plug?? on the wall - if not run an ext cord to where you want it- or ask an electrical place for what you have- and you may need new lights if you cooked the others-D
Q: How did the tradition of hanging Christmas lights originate?
Hanging Christmas lights from our house is something we've done for as long as I can remember. When, where, and why did this tradition originate?
A: The decorating of Christman trees originated with the Germanic Saxon tribes in ancient times. They used candles, but this often led to fires, so with the invention of light bulbs, it wasn't long before someone thought of colored lights.
Q: Houses that are covered with Christmas lights that you can see for miles - what do you think?
Every neighbourhood has one. The house that is covered in Christmas bling and lights on the roof, models in the garden, flashing strings of lights in the trees - stuff that you can see for miles (and need sunglasses when you get too close). Now some of these raise money for charity (but surely they're out of pocket by the time they've paid the electricity bill?). So are they a good idea. Or are they just a case of 'too much money, too many lights, too little taste' and a wish to upset their neighbours and lower the tone of the neighbourhood and make it look really chavvy?
A: It's called CHRISTMAS SPIRIT.... If you don't get it then I hope you get COAL for a gift!!! These things make alot of people happy.... Guess you are just not one of them.....

A: I live in an apartment and have lights in all of my windows, plus a tree. I keep them on from about 5:00 - 11:00 every night and my elelctric bill is about $100 a month.

Q: What is the best kind of tape to use to hang Christmas lights in the window?
I am putting up Christmas lights in my main window and I need to know the best tape to use so they don't fall down or have to keep going back to tape them up again.

A: well don't use scotch tape use packaging tape that's clear (like used on boxes)
Q: How do you store christmas lights with out them getting tangled next year?
I have tried to wrap them around a cardboard, twirl them over and over alternating elbow hands.. Folding them does not work either. These are christmas lights much like extension wires and some are dangling icicles
A: Save the cardboard tube your wrapping paper came on and wrap them around that.
Q: How many watts are the small Christmas lights?
I have a strand of 75 small christmas lights. Would that be equivalent to having a light on in your home?
A: No, they would use less energy than a standard light bulb.
Q: What's a good way to put up christmas lights in a room without having to put holes in the wall?
I used duct tape last night to put up Christmas lights but this morning they were all on the ground. Any suggestions on what will work?

Q: How can I fix christmas lights that worked last year but not this year?
I have a bunch of strings of lights that partly work or don't work at all. They worked last year, and I don't want to simply throw them out. How does one diagnose and fix christmas light problems?
A: It's cheaper to just buy new lights then mess with those darn strings.
